Ground Turkey May Contain Bacteria

Turkey is a staple meat product that many have turned to because it’s leaner and considered healthier than beef or pork. However, More than half of the raw ground turkey and patty products we recently analyzed contained fecal bacteria, and 90 percent had at least one of the five bacteria that we looked for, including some notorious for causing foodborne illness, like salmonella and staphylococcus aureus. And almost all of the disease-causing bugs were resistant to one or more of the antibiotics commonly used to fight them. This resistance means that patients are having to combine antibiotics to find a

Using Springpad as a Fabulous Free Meal Planner

Yesterday I was watching “One More Reason for Family Meals” and it got me to thinking about what would make it easier for me to ensure that we eat even more meals together as a family, especially considering the developmental benefits for our children. However, scheduling meals is difficult when you consider meetings, practices, rehearsals, homework and anything else that pops up. I suppose, like anything else, preparation would make this task easier to tackle. In this case, what does that mean? Meal planning. By planning meals once a week, you alleviate the stress of having to answer the consummate question,

Happy Grandparents Day

Here are some cute jokes I was emailed a while back. I thought I’d share them in honor of Grandparents Day.   1. She was in the bathroom, putting on her makeup, under the watchful eyes of her young granddaughter, as she’d done many times before.  After she applied her lipstick and started to leave, the little one said, “But Grandma, you forgot to kiss the toilet paper good-bye!”  I will probably never put lipstick on again without thinking about kissing the toilet paper good-bye…. 2. My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday.  He asked me

Keeping Schoolwork Organized at Home

Here’s a great back-to-school tip for parents that I’m sure will be easy to employ and long on benefits. This tip is from a list of “26 Organizing Tips That Actually Work“. It’s a great list but I wanted to share this one specific tip regarding the beautiful artwork and graded assignments our children bring home from school because I can definitely identify with the dilemma of having to decide what to do with it all. Keep each kid’s tests, drawings, and papers in a large art box, and go through the boxes with your children at the end of

Screening by Nanny Agencies – Is it Good Enough?

The most important role of nanny agencies is ensuring that the nannies or babysitters they provide are professional and trustworthy. This is currently done by screening nannies through interviews, reference checks and background screening. Not every agency uses all three screening methods and very few include also personality testing as part of their screening process. Au pair agencies in the USA are required by federal regulations to use personality tests as part of the Au Pair screening process. If personality tests are important enough to be mandated by the US government for screening Au Pairs, why aren’t they used as
